JANUARY 2008 -- Volvo is recalling 1,900 MY 2008 V70 and XC70 vehicles equipped with rear integrated booster seats for failing to comply with the labeling requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems." Labels on the affected vehicles are missing warning information indicating that 'death or serious injury can occur' if the manufacturer's instructions are not followed when using child restraint systems. This standard specifies requirements for child restraint systems used in motor vehicles and aircraft for the purpose of reducing the number of children killed or injured in motor vehicle crashes and in aircraft. Dealers will install a new label with the correct warning information. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule for this campaign. 08V032

DECEMBER 2007 -- Volvo is recalling 1,695 MY 2008 XC70 sport utility vehicles for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120, "Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles Other Than Passenger Cars." The wheel information label located on the rear driver's side door pillar was printed missing the wheel size (rim) information. The purpose of this standard is to provide safe operational performance by ensuring that vehicles to which it applies are equipped with tires of adequate size and load rating and with rims of appropriate size and type designation. Owners will be provided with a correct certification label and installation instructions. If the owner prefers, a dealer can install the label for them. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule for this campaign. 07V566

NEWS:     Volvo recalls 18,000 vehicles worldwide due to faulty airbags

CNN Money - Nov. 22, 2007 -- Ford Motor Co unit Volvo Cars said it has recalled 18,000 vehicles worldwide, including 4,980 in Sweden, because of problems with their airbags.

Volvo Cars spokeswoman Maria Bohlin told Agence France-Presse that there was a problem with the software in the lateral systems of the airbags. The company had discovered that in the event of a collision with a small object, such as a fencepost, the airbags are not activated as quickly as they should be, Bohlin said.

The models affected are the 2008 versions of the V70 and the XC70.

Outside Sweden, the main countries affected by the recall are the UK, the US, Germany and Italy.

OCTOBER 2007 -- Volvo is recalling 5,002 MY 2008 XC70 passenger vehicles. Two deviations have been found in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit software. These deviations may result in a late deployment of the inflatable curtain (IC) and side impact protection system (SIPS) air bags in certain side impact crash situations. In addition, this software error may also cause the 'SRS Airbag - Service Urgent' message and SRS warning light to illuminate. Late deployment of the IC and SIPS air bags in certain side impact crash situations could increase the risk of injury to the vehicle occupant. Dealers will perform a software upgrade of the SRS control unit. The recall is expected to begin during November 2007. 07V-500
